New to project management and want to learn more in 2020? A conference could be a great way to learn all about tools for the field. Even experienced project managers need to obtain strategic professional development each year and thousands gather annually at conferences around the globe. These U.S.-based conferences are great ways to spend a few days working on your skills, networking with colleagues, and learning about the latest trends and future developments in the field. Pick a 2020 project management conference nearby and save the dates (or grab those early bird discounts before registration prices increase).

Agile Open Northwest, February 3-5, 2020, Seattle, WA

This budget-minded, intimate conference will offer $300 registration to its limit of 300 attendees in Seattle. Attendees can present topics as a part of the event’s “Open Space” policy that encourages the sharing of collective knowledge on agile practices and techniques.

deliver:Agile 2020, April 29-May 1, 2020,  Columbus, OH

For Agile engineers, there’s a wealth of knowledge to be gained from events like deliver:Agile. This year’s event’s themes include core technical practices, team technical practices, and technical practices at the organizational level. Conference details are not yet published, but you can sign up for updates.

Association of Change Management Professionals (ACMP) May 3-6, 2020, Anaheim, CA

This year’s theme is “The Future of Work” and they’ve lined up former Google executive, Laszlo Bock, as the conference’s closing speaker. Bock’s book, Work Rules!: Insights from Inside Google That Will Transform How You Live and Lead, details his time at the tech giant, and how you can use what he learned to lead your best team in 2020. Not convinced? ACMP even offers a special set of resources titled “Convince Your Boss” with emails and talking points to teach your employer about the importance of your professional development with this conference, plus a budget breakout and session planner.

Global Scrum Gathering, May 11-13, 2020, New York City

Since 2013, this conference has been one of the main events for those interested in developing their Scrum skills. As an event geared toward an international audience of professional project managers, you can expand your network globally while also learning how to be better at your job.

Agile & Beyond, May 20-21, 2020, Detroit, MI

Volunteer-run, grassroots conference Agile & Beyond takes place in Detroit this year and offers a two-day conference along with pre-conference workshops. If you’re new to Agile or project management, this conference could offer an affordable way to learn a lot about trusted methods and best practices in your industry. Bonus for PMs located in the Midwest, this was the only conference I found not located on the coast.

PMI Houston 2020, June 1-2, 2020, Houston, TX

Project Management in Practice, June 25-26, 2020, Boston, MA

The 14th annual conference focuses on a holistic approach to the field. In the organizer’s words, they will plan 2020’s event to promote a “holistic, thoughtful, more connected, long-term view of projects and their outcomes, with a more enterprise-level program and portfolio flavor.” Full details TBD, but last year’s event only took the first 110 participants and sold out early.

Agile 2020, July 20-24, 2020, Orlando, FL

Details on speakers and exhibitors are still to come, but Agile 2020 bills itself as a place where experts in agile practices meet to exchange ideas. They are still accepting program submissions until early February. In its 19th year, Agile 2020 offers member, non-member, student, and group rates for registration.

Project Management Institute Global Conference, October 17-19, 2020, Seattle, WA

This year the PMI Global Conference will also allow up to 15 active members to get on stage as a part of TED@PMI. These select few will be trained by a TED speaker to speak and inspire with their own TED talk.

2020 Digital PM Summit Orlando, October 18-20, 2020, Orlando, FL

This will be the eighth year that The Digital Bureau has sponsored this event, which brings together “a near-even split between agency DPMs and in-house DPMS” to a multi-day event. Early bird registration is available.

PMO Symposium 2020, November 8-11, 2020, Champions Gate, FL

This fall’s conference has few details published yet, but will take place in the Orlando area in November. Sign up online for details once they are available.
