Job Summary:
The Paralegal II will provide comprehensive trademark support to attorneys within a large enterprise environment. The role focuses on trademark prosecution, trademark searches, docket management, dispute support, and preparation of legal documentation. The ideal candidate will have strong knowledge of United States trademark procedures and experience working with the United States Patent and Trademark Office. This position requires excellent written communication, organization, analytical skills, and the ability to manage multiple trademark matters and deadlines. The role will involve regular interaction with outside counsel, internal stakeholders, and senior management.
Key Responsibilities:
- Coordinate and organize documentation and information requests related to trademark disputes.
- Assist attorneys with case preparation, fact finding, investigation activities, and trademark related research.
- Conduct comprehensive trademark searches using the United States Patent and Trademark Office database and other trademark searching platforms.
- Prepare and file trademark prosecution documents, including new applications, declarations of use, and supporting documentation.
- Gather and review specimens and other materials required for trademark submissions.
- Retrieve and review trademark dockets to monitor activities, deadlines, and required actions.
- Draft concise and effective communications, including cease and desist correspondence and communications with outside counsel.
- Respond to document requests and inquiries from internal and external stakeholders regarding trademark matters.
- Conduct online research and trademark database searches to support prosecution and dispute activities.
- Coordinate regularly with outside law firms, internal employees, attorneys, and senior management.
Required Qualifications:
- At least five years of trademark prosecution experience.
- Experience preparing and submitting trademark documents to the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
- Experience preparing declarations of use and gathering specimens for trademark filings.
- Strong experience conducting trademark searches and database research.
- Experience retrieving, reviewing, and analyzing trademark dockets.
- Strong legal writing, analytical, organizational, and project management skills.
- Bachelor’s degree or Paralegal Certificate from an ABA certified program.
- Ability to independently manage multiple files, deadlines, and increasingly complex assignments.
- Proficiency with database management, Excel, and legal software packages.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience supporting trademark disputes and investigations.
- Experience working directly with outside counsel and senior management.
- Experience with major trademark searching platforms beyond the United States Patent and Trademark Office database.
- Strong negotiation and interpersonal skills in a legal environment.
