Electrical Design Engineer III – High-Speed Digital Design

Location: Redmond, WA
Assignment: Contract to hire
PayRate: $55/hr to $60/hr
About the Role
We are looking for a Senior Electrical Design Engineer III with strong expertise in high-speed digital design, memory interfaces, signal integrity, and board bring-up to support the next generation of advanced controller hardware.
The primary focus of this role will be the memory upgrade of a Gen 2 controller board, working closely with the electrical, PCB layout, firmware, manufacturing, and test teams. The engineer will help take the design from schematic refinement through layout oversight, verification, bring-up, and production debug.
What You'll Do
  • Own and refine the high-speed digital design for memory upgrades on a Gen 2 controller board.
  • Work on a complex board incorporating:
    • Large SoC
    • New/upgraded memory and PMIC
    • Multiple power rails, power regulation, and sequencing
    • Optical amplifier / optical head assembly
    • Motor control circuitry
    • Telemetry and temperature, current, and voltage monitoring
  • Complete and refine schematic designs based on the defined system architecture.
  • Work closely with the dedicated PCB layout team and provide technical oversight and guidance.
  • Guide critical component placement, high-speed routing, impedance requirements, and design constraints.
  • Ensure signal integrity, noise performance, and high-speed interface requirements are met.
  • Review PCB layout and provide feedback on critical routing and placement decisions.
  • Support design verification, hardware bring-up, and functional testing.
  • Debug hardware issues in the lab and perform root-cause analysis.
  • Support production troubleshooting and RCA/debugging as needed.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve hardware, firmware, and manufacturing issues.
  • Contribute to design documentation, test plans, bring-up procedures, and manufacturing readiness.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience.
  • Strong hands-on experience with high-speed digital hardware design.
  • Experience designing or upgrading memory interfaces on complex digital boards.
  • Experience with SoC/processor-based hardware.
  • Strong understanding of signal integrity, noise, impedance, and high-speed PCB design.
  • Experience with schematic capture and PCB design workflows.
  • Experience working with PCB layout teams and providing layout review/technical direction.
  • Hands-on experience with board bring-up, hardware validation, and lab debugging.
  • Strong understanding of power distribution, power rails, PMICs, and sequencing.
  • Ability to read and interpret datasheets, reference designs, and technical specifications.
  • Strong troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with high-speed memory technologies and memory upgrades.
  • Experience with high-speed serial interfaces.
  • Experience with signal-integrity simulation/analysis.
  • Experience with Siemens Xpedition/Xpedition EDM.
  • Experience with complex SoC-based controller boards.
  • Experience with optical, motor-control, telemetry, or embedded hardware.
  • Knowledge of EMI/EMC considerations.
  • Experience supporting production hardware and manufacturing RCA.
  • Experience with test automation or scripting for hardware validation.
